Managing Multilingual Web ApplicationsMichael Roche - Lotus Development Ireland
This paper is a progression of the one presented last year by Alan Barrett It discusses how to develop multilingual web applications using Lotus technologies. It covers designing and building multilingual applications, demonstrating the Lotus Domino Multilingual Web Server features, with reference to real customer solutions. It then goes on to demonstrate the behaviour of the "Synchroniser" which keeps language versions of Websites up to date. The Synchroniser is a server based automated agent type task that manages the Website content across languages. Followed by a discussion of the translation Workflow provided with the Lotus multilingual application development toolset. These web applications can also be MT enabled using a Java and LotusScript API which translates a wide range of languages using MT engines from multiple vendors at the same time. The UI being demonstrated also includes font matching algorithims with patents pending that were presented as a paper at the Unicode conference in the US this summer. These technologies allow building industrial strength multilingual web applications. |
