Biography

Michael Everson - Everson Typography

Michael Everson is a Dublin-based alphabetician, expert on the writing systems of the world. His company, Everson Typography, supports minority-language communities, especially in the fields of character standardization and internationalization. He is one of the co-authors of the Unicode Standard, and is a Contributing Editor and Irish National Representative to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC2/WG2, the committee responsible for the development and maintenance of the Universal Character Set. He is a font designer who has contributed to the encoding in the UCS of a large number of scripts (Braille, Buhid, Cherokee, Canadian Syllabics, Cypriot, Deseret, Ethiopic, Gothic, Hanunóo, Khmer, Limbu, Linear B, Myanmar, Ogham, Old Italic, Osmanya, Runic, Shavian, Sinhala, Tagalog, Tagbanwa, Tai Le, Tibetan, Ugaritic, and Yi). He is working on proposals to encode a number of ancient and lesser-known scripts (Batak, Blissymbolics, Brahmi, Buginese, Chakma, Cham, Cirth, Coptic, Egyptian Hieroglyphs, Glagolitic, Hungarian Runic, Indus, Lepcha, Linear A, Luvian, Mayan Hieroglyphics, Meithei, Meroitic, Naxi Geba, Newari, N'ko, Ol Cemet', Old Permic, Old Persian Cuneiform, Pahawh Hmong, Phoenician, Rongorongo, Siddham, Sorang Sompeng, South Arabian, Sumero-Akkadian Cuneiform, Sutton SignWriting, Tengwar, Varang Kshiti). In the early 1990s, he was involved in the localization of the Mac OS and other software into Irish Gaelic, Welsh, and Inuktitut.
