Biography

Khaver Zia - Beaconhouse-Informatics Computer Institute

Dr. Khaver Zia was born in Lahore Pakistan in 1953. He received his B. Engg. in Electronics from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore in 1976. Dr. Zia obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester, UK in Control engineering in 1983. The same year he joined FAST Institute of Electronics, Lahore where he was responsible for the design and development of a number of microprocessor based projects, including Urdu text processor. Later on he was one of the founder faculty members responsible for establishing FAST Institute of Computer Science, Lahore. He was appointed Head of Academics in 1992 and promoted to Director of the Institute in 1996, a position he held till January 2000.

Later, he joined Beaconhouse-Informatics Computer Institute, Lahore, where he is working as Director Academics at the Corporate Office. He is responsible for academic supervision of both the foreign and local degree programs conducted by Beaconhouse- Informatics.

Dr. Zia is an honorary member of the Urdu and Regional Languages Software Development Forum (URLSDF), a body working under the aegis of Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan.

He is also an honorary member of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), an advisory body of the Government of Punjab on IT.

His interests are in Multilingual Processing and issues related to Computer Education. He is credited with 8 publications on Urdu text processing and character encoding.
