Someone on one of the Irish discussion lists forwarded the following
text with translation from the Annals of Connacht. Unicode relevance:
note the ".i." in the first sample which has been discussed recently
on the list; it means "that is". Text is given in Middle Irish,
Modern Irish, and English.

>Annála Connacht, A.D. 1463:
>
>Mac Donnchada Riabach in Bali Moir h. Flainn Esa .i. Tomaltach
>mortuus est iar n-ol imarcraid usce bethad adaig Beltaine, an tsai
>Erenn.
>
>D'éag Tomhaltach Mac Donnchadha Riabhach, saoi Éireann, tar éis an
>iomarca uisce beatha a ól oíche Bhealtaine.
>
>Tomhaltach Mac Donnachadha Riabhach, a most distinguished man of
>Ireland, died after drinking too much whiskey on the eve of May Day.

Happy May Day, all. Take care in your celebrations. :-)
