    when talking about search engines that convert Palaeo-Hebrew or
    Phoenician or whatever into modern Hebrew, can we please avoid the word
    "normalization"?

    That has a very specific meaning in Unicode, and I'd hate for somebody
    to leave this thread thinking that characters from different encoded
    scripts would be made canonical equivalents of one another.
