If there are going to be flag symbols how about at least including
flags of other countries (e.g. Ireland) that regularly attend WG2
meetings?
Seriously ~ If the *Universal* Character Set is going include
characters representing *any* national flags shouldn't it include
flags for at least all UN members? - and perhaps flags for entities
like the UNO, EU, Red-Cross/Red Crescent? IMO if these eight are let
in, eventually adding the rest will be unavoidable. Better to encode
them as a group in a systematic manner from the start.
To avoid offending anyone, countries should perhaps be arranged
alphabetically - or maybe in the order that the countries became
members of the UN which would allow for future expansion in an orderly
way.
On a technical note, FLAG SYMBOL GB should probably be renamed FLAG
SYMBOL UK to keep the name in line with ISO 3166
