Keep in mind that even if you encounter a display system (operating
system + rendering engine + font) that does not render the characters
"properly," the combining sequences are still the correct way to encode
these letters.
"Properly" means different things to different people. Some believe
that if the display of a combining sequence is any way imperfect -- if
the diaeresis or macron is not perfectly centered above the base letter,
or if it is too high or too low -- then that is a justification for
encoding a precomposed letter, or otherwise indicates a problem with
Unicode. They are mistaken.
