This upside-down inscription reminds me of the very funny incident in which
the crank epigrapher Barry Fell claimed that an inscription on a lintel
in Mexico was in the Kavi script and provided evidence of pre-Columbian
contact with the old world. It turned out that if you turned it upside down (from
Fell's point of view) it was in perfectly ordinary Spanish of the colonial
period in a somewhat cursive version of the Roman alphabet.
