The software package I am referring to does support Unicode text for the
documents, and probably can import ISCII, converting it to Unicode. But the
encoding of the Devanagari fonts themselves is not Unicode. Proprietary, I
suppose is the correct description of the encoding.

Some of Unitype's fonts such as Arabic and Bengali are Unicode fonts.
