While splitters will find this an excellent reason for a new set of
symbols, lumbers may want to think twice (quoting from the refered page
of Wikipedia):
>> IEC 5007, the power on (line) symbol,
There’s plenty of roughly suitable symbols already encoded, the lowly "|"
(U+007C VERTICAL LINE) being the most immediate choice. "❙" (U+2759
MEDIUM VERTICAL BAR) could be though about, as could "❘" (U+2758 LIGHT
VERTICAL BAR), but "❚" (U+275A HEAVY VERTICAL BAR) and "︱" (U+FE31
PRESENTATION FORM FOR VERTICAL EM DASH) probably not.
>> IEC 5008, the power off (circle) symbol
Ditto — but the best candidate is surely "○" (U+25CB WHITE CIRCLE).
>> IEC 5010, the power on-off symbol (line within a circle),
Not even lumpers will try to push this semantics into "⦶" (U+29B6 CIRCLED
VERTICAL BAR), I guess — unless the IEC 5010 symbol is an acceptable
glyph for this symbol.
>> IEC 5009, the standby symbol (line partially within a broken circle),
Not even a remotely good idea for this one, apart from juggling stunts
such as "◡̍" (U+25E1 LOWER HALF CIRCLE and U+030D COMBINING VERTICAL LINE
ABOVE).
>> A crescent moon, indicating sleep, is added by IEEE 1621
Lumpers will be satisfied with "☾" (U+263E LAST QUARTER MOON), I suppose.
