Abstract

The IMultiLanguage Interface

Bill Hall - SimulTrans L.L.C.

Intended Audience: Manager, Software Engineer, Systems Analyst
Session Level: Intermediate

IMultiLanguage is a little-known but very useful COM object on Win32 platforms that provides a variety of language and character conversion utilities that supplement standard Unicode and code page support or supply useful new functionality. Targeted originally to supply additional web support, currently some twenty-five methods are available ranging from language detection and script enumeration to conversions between Unicode and code pages not normally supported including Asian EUC and the 'missing' UTF-7/8 conversions on Windows 95. In this presentation we discuss the supported interfaces, show how to gain access from Windows and Java, and illustrate its use in other applications.
