RE: Question about IBM character sets

Hello, Clive
There is no change/addition of coded character set on JIS X0208:1997.

By the way, let me correct the following.
> 932 contains all the characters of JIS X 0208-1978 and
932 contains all the characters of *JIS X 0208-1990*, not JIS X 0208-1978.
It contains additional characters from JIS X0208-1978.
What Lisa wanted to say is about the character assignment. As you may know,
the character assignment is not completely equivalent between JIS
X0208-1978 and JIS X0208-1983(1990/1997). Some Kanji glyph variants are
swapped between 1978 and 1983(1990/1997) version. 932 is based on the code
sequence on JIS X0208-1978, but contains all the characters of JIS
X0208-1990.

Clive,

I don't know. I will forward your question to my colleague, Tetsuji Orita,
at IBM's Yamato Lab in Japan. He works on our code page definitions for
Japanese support.

Lisa,
The last revision of JIS-X-208 is 1997 (of which I have a copy; its
available in
Japanese only to date). Do you anticipate any changes to IBM CP 934
or a new CP based on the 1997 revision? Or know of any to Microsoft CPs?
Thanks,
Clive
