I figured it was something like that. I'm concluding that I don't have a
font that supports plane 2 characters.

Yes, we'll there's something weird about your pages because I've done
those things, and I can't even view plane 0 Chinese characters in those
pages properly, regardless of whether I use the font-specified,
no-font-specified or weft versions. What's weirder is that if I view the
source using Notepad, I see them, but if I copy the characters and paste
them into Word 2002, nothing appears (but the cursor advances, and it
picks a reasonable font, so there's something there).

Something very bizarre is going on inside my machine.
