The Unicode fonts for Indic scripts rely on the new font
technology "OpenType" combined with operating system
support (in Microsoft it's called "Uniscribe" or "USP10.DLL")
in order to display the special letter forms which aren't
directly encoded in Unicode.

The Code2000 font is not complete for Indic scripts, it only
has Devanagari, Telugu, Tamil, Oriya, and Gurmukhi.

The Tamil and Gurmukhi OpenType tables seem to be complete
and working on this system, but I'm running an experimental
"USP10.DLL" here which was obtained from Microsoft as part
of the VOLT (Visual OpenType Layout Tool) project.

OpenType tables for Devanagari and Telugu are partial. Having
some problems, need to review the specifications and keep trying.

Code2000 doesn't yet have glyphs or OpenType tables for Oriya
special forms, but there are many such forms required.

(The Kannada in Code2000 is awful and needs to be re-drawn.)

Windows 2000 offers the best OpenType support, but the "USP10.DLL"
also works on Win 9x/M.E. (but only in the web browser and
e-mail programs, here). The "USP10.DLL" is being distributed
along with Internet Explorer as part of the package, as far as
I know.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

James Kass.
